TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—Senior
Allison Laird finished first in the 5,000 meters to lead the University of Southern Indiana women's track and field team at the Pacesetter Invitational Saturday.
Laird finished the race in 18 minutes, 10.77 seconds as she recorded her second career victory and her first since her freshman season in 2008.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles had seven top-10 finishes, including four in the 5,000 meters. Freshman
Erika Wilson joined Laird with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meters, while junior
Heather Beard and freshman
Kristen Gray were sixth and ninth, respectively, in the same event.
Sophomore Lauren Minior and freshman
Kassaundra Lucius were second and sixth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while sophomore
Rebekah Hoffman was seventh in the javelin.
The Eagles return to action April 28-30 when they compete at the Hillsdale “Gina” Relays in Hillsdale, Michigan. USI competes at the GLVC Outdoor Championships May 6-7 in Rolla, Missouri.
