SOMERS, Wis.—Sophomore
Michael Callison recorded a pair of first-place finishes this weekend to help lead the University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships.
Callison captured his first-career GLVC individual title as he finished first in the mile with a time of four minutes, 23.26 seconds. He also helped the Screaming Eagles' distance medley relay team to a first-place finish Friday night.
USI's DMR squad, which finished in 10 minutes, 15.62 seconds, was also comprised of junior
Dustin Emerick as well as sophomores
Michael Jordan and
Bryan Suarez.
As a team, the Eagles had seven top-five performances and 15 top-eight efforts as they finished with 63 points, just eight behind fourth-place Saint Joseph's College. The University of Indianapolis finished first with 207 points.
Emerick added a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters while sophomore
Brendan Devine and junior
John Latta finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 5,000 meters. Freshman
Clayton Willis was fifth in the mile, while senior
Brandon Campbell placed fifth in the 5,000 meters.
USI will have to wait to see if Emerick has made the final cut in the 5,000 meters for the NCAA II Indoor Championships, which are March 11-12 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Eagles open their outdoor schedule April 1-2 at the Washington Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri.
