INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana senior
Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) was named the GLVC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for her efforts at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California. Saint Joseph's College Alex DeJuan also was honored by being named the Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.
The weekly honor is the first of the outdoor season by Ballinger, who was named the GLVC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week three times in January and February.
Ballinger ran an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 3000-meter steeplechase last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. She ran the 3000-meters in a time of 10 minutes, 34.23 seconds, less than 12 seconds off the school-record pace when she ran to win the NCAA Division II national championship in the steeplechase last spring.
USI returns to action next weekend at the Hillsdale Relays and the Bellarmine Invitational.
