Jordan paces Eagles in outdoor-opener

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Freshman Michael Jordan posted a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday evening to lead the University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team to an eighth-place finish in its outdoor season-opener at the Washington University Invitational.

Jordan's time of nine minutes, 26.25 seconds was just 1.25 ticks away from an NCAA II provisional qualifying mark.

Overall, the Screaming Eagles had nine top-10 finishes and five top-five performances as they finished with 42 points in the 25-team field.

Sophomore Dustin Emerick aided the Eagles with a second-place finish in the 5,000 meters. Emerick's time of 14 minutes, 43.85 seconds was an NCAA II provisional qualifying time.

Other top-five performers included freshmen Michael Callison and Brendan Devine as well as sophomore Wes Camp. Callison was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Devine and Camp each posted fifth-place finishes in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, respectively.

USI returns to action April 16-17 when it sends a small squad to the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California. The Eagles also are scheduled to compete at the Rose-Hulman Twilight in Terre Haute, Indiana, on April 16.
