Signing Update: Liberty North distance stars pick colleges

The track and field season is now over but there are still a few signings being announced and a few that our readers have pointed out. If you see any we missed, email or tag us on Twitter. Be sure to check back on past stories as well.

2023 MSHSAA High School College Signees

Without further ado ... 

Atlanta -- Hannibal-LaGrange has signed Shelby Stull, who throws the shot put and discus.

Blue Springs: Adrianna McMurray is headed to Division II Washburn. She was a state qualifier in the 100-meter hurdles in MSHSAA Class 5, taking 10th. She won the Greater Kansas City Suburban Gold Conference meet title in the event the past two years.

Blue Springs South: Teammates Max McMullin and Aiden Wahrenbrock will be teammates at Truman State. McMullin's specialty is the high jump. Wahrenbrock is a distance runner who previously qualified for the state cross country championship in 2021 in Class 5.

Charleston -- Claire Nichols, an all-stater in javelin (fifth) in the Class 2 finals this year is headed to State Fair Community College. She's also a previous state qualifier in discus.


Cole Camp: Christina Gifford, who does the 100- and 200-meter dash and pole vault, signed with State Fair Community College.

Ft Zumwalt East: Hailey Carmichael inked with Trevecca Nazarene University. She's ran the 400-meter dash up to the 3,200-meter run this spring. She also ran cross country for the Lions.

Ft Zumwalt West: Allison Brumfield will be staying close to home, inking with Missouri Baptist University. She primarily ran the 3,200-meter event but also did the pentathlon in late March. She was a Class 5 state cross country qualifier this school year.

Joplin -- Cylee Gilreath was a state qualifier this year in the Class 5 cross country finals for the Eagles. She will run at Crowder College.

Lebanon : New State Fair Community College signee Caden Morris is coming off an all-state showing in the Class 5 triple jump by taking eighth. He was a state qualifier the year prior as well.


Liberty North: A school that has a deep distance program is sending two more runners to college in Jorge Perezruiz (University of St. Mary ) and Grayson Tapp (Northwest Missouri State). They join Asher Curp, who signed earlier with Central Missouri. All were part of a cross country team title in 2022. Tapp was all-state in the 800- and 1,600-meter run this past spring and helped the Eagles place second in Class 5. Tapp was also all-state in cross country this past school year. Perezruiz will be reunited with his older brother, Luis Perezruiz, who is a sophomore at the Leavenworth, Kansas school. The younger brother was at the state cross country meet all four years.

McDonald County -- Dalton McClain signed to run at Crowder College. He ran the sprints this spring for the Mustangs. His mom, LaDonna, was a basketball standout at McDonald County and used to be the head women's basketball coach at Austin Peay and UNLV.

Pattonville: Camryn Hubbard is headed to Iowa State. She is coming off an all-state showing in the 800-meter run, taking fifth in Class 5. She was a state champion in the event last year and a state qualifier in the 400 in 2021.


Rockwood Summit: Ella Thier signed with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. She was an all-state cross country runner this past season, taking 18th place at the MSHSAA Class 4 State XC Championships. She was 14th in 2021 at the state cross country meet and 10th in 2020. She helped the Falcons to two Class 4 state cross country team trophies the past two seasons.


Seneca MO -- Dalisia Reed is a distance runner who signed with Crowder College.

Union MO: Bryson Pickard (pictured at top), one of the top combined 400/800 runners in the state, is headed to Fontbonne University in St. Louis. He broke four school records and was all-state in four events this year in the 400-, 800-meter runs, 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays. Was all-state in cross country earlier in the school year. Also was an all-stater in the 800 in 2022. Ran to PRs of 49.07 and 1:55.09 at 2023 state meet in Class 4.


St. Paul Lutheran (Farmington): DeVontae Minor will compete at Mineral Area College. He does the sprints and long jump.

Wellsville-Middletown: William Woods has signed Gavin Hill, who threw the shot put, discus and javelin this spring.
