Mikey Brannigan Finishes Big World Para Effort, Doubles in 800m And 1500m

Northport (NY) High graduate Mikey Brannigan finished his versatile week at the World Para Athletics Championships on Sunday in London, coming up just short of his quest to take three gold medals in the T20 800m, 1500m and 5K.

Brannigan finished second overall in the men's T20 5K on Sunday (still ongoing), posting a time of 14:39.87, which was 10 seconds off the winning time of 14:29.80 by Cristiano Pereira of Portugal.

But the New York native was coming off a big win in the 800m the previous day, completing his double in the T20 800m run with a winning time of 1:54.24. It came after two rounds, the earlier seeing Brannigan coasting for an easy semifinal effort of 1:57.99.

Earlier in the week, Brannigan won the T20 1500m by pounding the last 400m, winning in 3:53.05.

No matter, the week was a successful one for Brannigan.
