New Albany’s Jermaine Parrish, Jeffersonville’s Tyrell Dowdell and Floyd Central’s Codie Hamsley should all contend in at least one event at Friday’s IHSAA Boys’ Track and Field championship at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Parrish enters the state finals as the favorite in the 100-meter dash, the event in which he is the defending state champion, and Hamsley is the thrower to beat in the discus.

Parrish, who admitted that he struggled early in the season, ran a blazing 10.56 in last Thursday’s Bloomington North Regional and that seed time is .22 seconds faster than Lafayette Jeff’s Matthew Johnson.

Since finishing second in the 200 meters to Lafayette Jeff’s Lucas Wallace a year ago, the future Louisville Cardinal has had his eye on doubling up in the 100 and 200 this year.

Parrish is seeded 11th in the 200, while his cousin — Clarksville’s Marquise Parrish — is seeded 17th. Wallace is the top seed.

Assuming both are healthy and don’t scratch out, the discus champion will clearly come down to Hamsley and Lake Central junior Gelen Robinson. As expected even before the season, Hamsley and Robinson — the son of former Purdue and NBA All-Star Glenn Robinson — are heads and shoulders above the rest of the competition.

Hamsley enters the competition as the top seed with a regional toss of 201-feet, 3-inches. Robinson was just behind at 200-4. North Montgomery’s Dakota Ramsey is the third seed, nearly 35 feet behind both Hamsley and Robinson. Borden’s Brett Williams, who is the 19th-rated sophomore discus thrower in the country, enters Friday’s state meet as the ninth seed.

Hamsley is the 10-seed in the shot put with a goal of a top-5 finish.

Dowdell, who was fifth in the 400 a year ago, is seeded second in what appears to be a very tight field. However, without having been pushed at the second or regional levels thus far, Dowdell may be the runner to beat in the 400. His preliminary time of 49.18 seconds is just .41 behind Hamilton Southeastern’s top-seeded Ryan Davis.

Dowdell’s senior teammate Chase Scott will return to state in the long jump after finishing 21st at last year’s meet. He is seeded 20th.

Jeff also has two relay teams at state. The Red Devils’ 400 relay team is the 27-seed and their 1,600 relay is seeded 18th.

Eastern senior Tevin Wolf finished 16th in the high jump as a junior. After clearly 6-6 and finishing second at the Bloomington North Regional last Thursday, Wolf is seeded fourth heading into Friday.

Floyd Central sophomore Gaige Klingsmith is seeded 13th in the 100 with a regional time of 10.99. Sophomore teammate Adam Wallace’s 1:59.14 gives him the No. 24 seed in the 800.

North Harrison’s Jonathan Reynolds is seeded seventh in the 3,200 and 17th in the 1,600. Corydon Central rival Levi Taylor comes in as the 8-seed in the 3,200.
