Cedar Grove Teammates Cheer on Super Sarah to State Championship Steve McClure Nov 2, 2008

On Saturday, she was Center Grove’s lone competitor since the Trojans finished out-of-the running in last week’s semistate.  But, her entire team was there sporting body paint that read “Super Sarah”.  Over the past four years, Higgens has run an average of 50 miles a week for 50 weeks out of the year.  It has paid off, Higgens’ winning time of 18:14 outdistanced Emily Mossler of Indianapolis North Central by 10 seconds for the state title.

State Meet: Shields, Higgens Win; Carmel Sweeps Team Titles Nov 1, 2008

Sarah Higgens of Center Grove clocked an 18:13 to take home her state championship medal (photo left).    The Carmel dominated team-wise scoring just 55 points, 105 points in front of runner-up Lake Central.  Carmel's team average dipped under 19 minutes (18:52). Drew Shields of Fischers won the boys race with a time of 15:20.  While Carmel's boys took care of business, eeking out the win over Ft. Wayne Carroll, 100-110.
