Former Franklin County Runner Robert Sandlin Named GLVC Runner of the Week

 

INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University junior Robert Sandlin, Jr., and Saint Joseph’s College senior Joe Tooks have been named the first Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the 2013 season, it was announced by the league on Wednesday.  Sandlin was voted by the league coaches as the Track Athlete of the Week, while Tooks was tabbed as the Field Athlete of the Week.

Sandlin, a native of Frankfort, Ky., finished third overall in the mile at the University of Kentucky Invitational with a conference-leading time of 4:13.18.  His time was also a NCAA provisional mark and currently ranks second among all Division II milers.

Sandlin earns the first weekly honor of his track and field career and is the first Knight to be recognized by the conference since Bryan Gennett was named Field Athlete of the Week on Feb. 15, 2012.

At the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State, Tooks went to the finals in the triple jump and finished second with a first jump of 13.96 meters, which proved to be his longest of the finals.

The Ford Heights, Ill., native garners the first weekly award of his career, and is the first Puma to be honored by the league since Tyler Sult was named Track Athlete of the Week on Jan. 19, 2010.
