Jordan, Henderson garner weekly XC honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior Michael Jordan and senior Jackie Henderson have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively, in a vote by the league's head coaches.

Jordan led the USI men's squad, which is ranked seventh in the nation, to a first-place finish at the Covered Bridge Opener last Friday in Boone, North Carolina. The Screaming Eagles defeated several NCAA Division I schools, including the ACC's Florida State University and Wake Forest University.

Finishing as the Eagles' top runner for the first time in his career, Jordan finished third out of 111 runners with an 8k time of 25 minutes, 42.20 seconds, just 13 ticks off the winning pace.

Henderson also turned out a solid effort at the Covered Bridge Open as she placed 20th out of 118 runners to lead the USI women's squad to a sixth-place finish in the 12-team competition. Henderson's time of 19 minutes, 26.20 seconds was the top time in the GLVC during the opening weekend.

This marks the first time in Jordan's career that he has earned GLVC Runner of the Week honors and the first time since September 29, 2009 that a USI men's runner has garnered the weekly cross country award. Jordan, a graduate of Pike High School (Indianapolis), is a pre-nursing major.

Henderson, a mathematics major and graduate of Lake Central High School (St. John, Indiana), is earning the weekly cross country honor for the second time in her career.

USI returns to action September 16 at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) when it competes at the Indiana Intercollegiate in Bloomington, Indiana.
