Women's cross country/track adds Schrader to roster

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's cross country/track and field team announced the signing of freshman Elizabeth (Augusta) Schrader (Crown Point, Indiana). Schrader is the second women's runner to be added Head Coach Mike Hillyard's Screaming Eagles for the 2011-12 season.

A graduate of Crown Point High School (Crown Point, Indiana) where she earned varsity letters in cross country and track, Schrader helped her squad to a seventh-place finish at the 2010 IHSAA State Cross Country Championships. She was CPHS's number three runner at the state meet, finishing 57th overall.

Her efforts on the cross country course helped lead CPHS to a sectional and a regional championship during her senior season as well as a third-place finish at the 2010 Semi-State Championships.

On the track, Schrader has excelled in the 300-meter hurdles as well as the 4x400-meter relay and the 4x800-meter relay. During her senior year in 2011, Schrader helped CPHS capture sectional titles in both the 4x400-meter and 4x800-meter relays. She captured sectional titles in the 300-meter hurdles as a sophomore and a junior and is a four-time regional qualifier in that event.

“Augusta has a nice blend of speed, athleticism, and aerobic strength,” Hillyard said. “Down the road she should develop into a frontrunner for us in cross country. On the track, her primary focus will be in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.”

Schrader joins freshman Skylair Hilton on USI's list of signees for the 2011-12 campaign.
