Devine, Henderson garner academic honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana juniors Brendan Devine and Jackie Henderson were named to the Capital One Academic All-District V teams in men's and women's cross country/track and field, respectively, in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The College Division in District V includes NCAA Division II, Division III, NAIA, and junior college institutions from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Manitoba, and Ontario.

Devine, who was named to the first team, earned All-America honors in cross country after finishing 31st at the NCAA Division II National Championships last fall. He also garnered All-Midwest Region honors and All-Great Lakes Valley Conference accolades after helping the Screaming Eagles win their sixth consecutive conference title.

A two-time All-American on the cross country course, Devine is majoring in history and journalism at USI and has a 3.72 GPA. Devine, who is a multiple-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association All-Academic honoree, is the first USI men's cross country/track & field performer to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District V honors and is now eligible for the Academic All-America team.

Henderson, who was named to the second team, earned All-America honors in cross country after finishing 40th at the NCAA II National Championships last fall. She also garnered All-Midwest Region honors and All-GLVC accolades after finishing sixth at the NCAA II Midwest Region Championships and second at the GLVC Championships.

A mathematics major with a 3.69 GPA, Henderson earned first-team All-GLVC honors in both indoor and outdoor track after capturing conference titles in the indoor 3,000 meters and the outdoor 5,000 meters. She recently finished 11th in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships.
