TURLOCK, Calif.—University of Southern Indiana junior Dustin Emerick can add another All-America honor to his list of accolades after finishing seventh in the men's 10,000 meters at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday night.

Emerick, who is earning All-America honors for the first time in his track career and the third time overall, completed the race in 29 minutes, 39.99 seconds, less than 30 seconds off the winning pace set by Abilene Christian University's Amos Sang.

Early in the competition, Emerick found himself jostling for position amongst the race leaders. Sang, and American International University sophomore Glarius Rop, however, distanced themselves from Emerick and the rest of the pack as they went onto finish first and second.

Emerick, who is a two-time All-American on the cross country course, slid into fourth-place where he stayed for a good portion of the race before settling on the seventh-place finish.

In addition to Emerick, junior Jackie Henderson finished 11th in the women's 10,000 meters, while sophomore Michael Callison was 17th in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase prelims.

Henderson finished her race in 35 minutes, 23.36 seconds, just over two minutes behind the NCAA II Outdoor Championship-record pace of 33 minutes, 17.39 seconds set by Western Washington University's Sarah Porter. Callison finished his race in nine minutes, 22.40 seconds.

USI returns to action Saturday when Emerick competes in the finals of the 5,000 meters. The race is slated to begin at 11 p.m. (CDT). Live results and video can be accessed at gousieagles.com.
