ROLLA, Mo.—The University of Southern Indiana men's track and field team finished sixth out of 10 teams at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Outdoor Championships this weekend behind the first-place performances of junior
Dustin Emerick and sophomore
Michael Jordan.
Emerick won the 5,000 meters with a time of 15 minutes, 15.08 seconds and was third in the 1,500 meters. Jordan finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an NCAA II provisional qualifying time of nine minutes, 7.98 seconds.
As a team, the Screaming Eagles had 10 top-five finishes and set three school-records as they finished with 79.5 points. USI entered the second day of competition tied for second after amassing 32 points throughout the first five events.
In addition to Emerick and Jordan, the Eagles also got strong performances from seniors #C.J. Trotter
and Cole Schroer
as well as junior John Latta
and freshman Thomas Snider#.
Trotter, who earned All-GLVC honors during the outdoor season a year ago and in basketball this past March, just missed out on winning a conference title in the high jump as he finished second with a school-record and NCAA II provisional leap of six feet, 8.75 inches.
Schroer had seven top-five finishes in the decathlon as he placed third with a school-record 5,536 points, while Snider tied for fourth in the pole vault with a school-record mark of 14 feet, six inches. Latta was second in the 10,000 meters.
USI is slated to compete at a pair of last-chance meets—the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Illinois, this Thursday and Friday and the Louisville Cardinal Twilight in Louisville, Kentucky, this Friday—before competing at the NCAA II Outdoor Championships in Stanislaus, California, May 26-28.
