EVANSVILLE, Ind.—University of Southern Indiana junior
Jackie Henderson was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's cross country in a vote by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
Henderson, who earned All-America honors this fall after finishing 40th at the NCAA II National Championships, is majoring in mathematics (actuarial) and has a 3.727 cumulative grade point average. It marks the 22nd time in school history that a USI student-athlete has earned GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors and the fourth time for women's cross country.
Previous USI women's cross country runners to garner the accolade include
Mary Ballinger (2010), Heather Cooksey (2004), and
Allison Shafer-Krieger (2006).
In 2010, Henderson guided the Screaming Eagles to a second-place finish at the GLVC Championships by taking runner-up honors as an individual. She earned the right to compete at the national meet by finishing sixth at the NCAA II Midwest Region Championships. Her efforts garnered her All-GLVC and All-Region honors.
Including track, Henderson is now a four-time All-GLVC performer and a four-time Academic All-GLVC honoree. She is a graduate of Lake Central High School in St. John, Indiana.
