AUGUSTA, Kan. – The University of Evansville men’s cross country team finished sixth at the State Farm Missouri Valley Cross Country Championship on Saturday in Augusta, Kansas. The sixth place finish by the men ties the best ever finish for the Aces at the MVC Championships.  UE's women finished ninth, and also ran a very strong race.

Senior Ryan Witters finished 21st overall in a time of 25:48.95 to pace the Aces for the seventh time this season. Senior Max Cordier finished second for UE and 32nd overall in a time of 26:36.04 followed by junior Brian Denny in 42nd with a time of 26:57.33. Freshman Andrew Barrett finished fourth for the Aces and 43rd with a time of 27:03.09. Senior Chris Kipchirchir came in fifth and 48th overall in a time of 27:21.22 followed by senior Nick Tyree in 55th overall with a time of 27:36.34 and sophomore Samuel Mires in 56th in 27:45.66.

On the women’s side, sophomore Lauren Zeabart continued to set the pace for the women with a 23rd place finish in a time of 18:40.71. Freshman Kelby Jenkins came across the line second for the Aces and 34th overall with a time of 18:55.23 followed by junior Melissa Truex in 52nd with a time of 19:30.52. Junior Lauren Shaftlein was fourth for UE finishing 55th with a time of 19:36.51 followed by sophomore Shelby Cron in 56th in a time 19:37.03. Freshman Nicole Kreuzman was sixth for the Aces and 65th overall with a time of 20:05.81 followed by senior Jaclyn Dippel in 67th with a time of 20:15.21 and sophomore Kepra McBrayer in 70th and a time of 20:36.68.

“I was happy with our performance today,” said UE head coach Don Walters. “We’ve been working hard all season and this week was no different. The regional competition is in two weeks, so we’re going to keep focused and finish the year strong.”

Indiana State took home the team title in the men’s 8-K race; Dan Dunbar of Southern Illinois took first place with a time of 24:29.38. Host Wichita State took the women’s 5-K crown with Tonya Nero of Wichita taking first place in a time of 17:25.34.

The Aces will be back on the course on November 13th at the 2010 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships in Rochester, Michigan.
