Witters led the Aces to a 13th place finish in the 8-K men’s blue race by placing 15th out of 328 competitors with a time of 25:31.20. Seniors Christopher Kipchirchir (Eldoret, Kenya / Kipsigak) ran second for UE placing 55th overall in a time of 26:11.80 followed by senior Max Cordier (Munich, Germany) who finished 89th overall with a time of 26:27.80. Sophomore Samuel Mires (Greenville, Ind. / Floyd Central) placed 136th with a time of 26:59.40, while freshman Andrew Barrett (Des Moines, Iowa / Theodore Roosevelt) finished with a time of 26:59.40 placing 14th overall. Junior Brian Denny (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) and senior Nicolas Tyree (Mitchell, Ind. / Mitchell) rounded out UE’s scoring pack, placing 178th, and 196 respectively.

On the women’s side, Zeabart led the Purple Aces by finishing 14th out of 287 competitors in the women’s 5-K blue race with a time of 18:46.39 to help UE finish fourth overall as a team. Freshman Kelby Jenkins (Frankfort, Ind. / Frankfort) placed second for UE and 23rd overall with a time of 18:56.99, while juniors Lauren Schaftlein (Milltown, Ind. / Crawford County) and Melissa Truex (Indianapolis, Ind. / Perry Meridian) placed 46th and 70th respectively. Sophomore Shelby Cron (Newburgh, Ind. / Memorial), senior Jaclyn Dippel (Evansville, Ind. / Memorial) and freshman Nicole Kreuzman (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) rounded out UE’s scoring efforts on the women’s side.

“I was pleased with the way both teams ran today,” said UE coach Don Walters.  “We had a handful of runners on both teams turn in personal records.  They have been working hard, and today it showed.  We get to rest next week and then host the UE Invitational which is always a lot of fun with many teams coming to Evansville; should be exciting.”

Marshall took home the team title on the men’s side, with Oscar Ogwaro running unattached and placing first overall with a time of 24:44.4.   Grand Valley State took the women’s team title, with Shorter University’s Justyna Mudy taking first place in a time of 17:40.77.

The October 16 UE Invitational takes place at the UE Cross Country Course. The women’s 5-K race is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. central time with the men’s 8-K race to follow.
