The University of Evansville cross country teams continue their season on Saturday, as the Purple Aces will take part in the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. The women’s 5-K race is set for 8:30 a.m. central time with the men’s 8-K race to follow.

This will be the second time this season that the Aces will compete against host Louisville. The Cardinals men’s team comes into this Saturday ranked seventh in the Southeast regional. Both the men’s and women’s team ran well when they came to Evansville for the Mid-American opener at the beginning of September, finishing 2ndand 1st respectively. The Aces prove to benefit by racing against top talent with the Missouri Valley Championships less than a month away.

“We’re going up against almost 500 top notch runners this weekend,” said UE head coach Don Walters. “Both teams are healthy with the exception of one or two runners on the men’s side. We’ve changed up the tempo of the workouts this week and their legs should be fresh and they can really cut their times.”

Evansville will enter Saturdays Greater Louisville Classic off of last Saturday’s second place showings at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois.  Senior Ryan Witters (Evansville, Ind./Memorial) continued to lead the Aces this season, placing seventh out of 65 competitors in the men’s 8-K race to pace the Purple Aces for the fourth consecutive week.  Meanwhile, on the women’s side, sophomore Lauren Zeabart also set the pace for the Purple Aces for the fourth time this season by placing 3rd overall.
