Eagles will get glimpse of national course Saturday

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday as they compete at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky. A total of four races will be run at the E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, site of the 2010 NCAA II National Championships, starting at 8:30 a.m. (CST).

The Screaming Eagles are familiar with the course, having run there twice last season and the possibility of three this season—the course also is the site of the NCAA II Midwest Region Championships in November.

Eight of the top 12 teams in Division II, including regional rival Grand Valley State University, ranked No. 4 nationally, are slated to compete Saturday. The women's races are slated to feature eight of the top 25 women's squads, including regional foes Grand Valley State, ranked No. 2 nationally, and Ferris State University, ranked No. 10 nationally.

Both the men's and women's squads are using this meet as a measuring stick, as they will compete with most of these teams later in the year at the NCAA II Midwest Regional and NCAA II National Championship meets.

The men's team, ranked No. 7 nationally, was led by junior Dustin Emerick at the Appalachian State Mountaineer Open two weeks ago, while junior Jackie Henderson, who received GLVC Runner of the Week honors for her performance in North Carolina, led the women's squad, which is ranked No. 11 nationally. Henderson finished in fifth overall in the women's race, while Emerick was seventh overall in the men's race.
