LAFAYETTE, Ind.— The University of Evansville women’s cross country team placed its top five runners within 49 seconds of one another, while the men were grouped within two minutes on Friday, as the Purple Aces placed seventh and tenth respectively at the annual Indiana Intercollegiate Championships in Lafayette, Indiana.
The UE women placed seventh out of 20 teams, led by sophomore Lauren Zeabart with a new personal record time of 18:56.60 to place 30th overall. Freshman Kelby Jenkins came in nine seconds behind Zeabart to finish 37th with a time of 19:07.60. The UE women finishing in the scoring pack were juniors Melissa Truex (59th, 19:37.90) and Lauren Schaftlein (64th, 19:45.40), sophomore Shelby Cron (65th, 19:45.50), freshman Nicole Kreuzman (79th, 20:10.10), and sophomore Kepra McBrayer (90th, 20:38.30).
Meanwhile, UE men placed tenth out of 22 teams, as senior Ryan Witters once again set the pace for the Purple Aces with an 8-K time of 25:59.00 to place 23rd out of 185 competitors in the men’s race. For Witters, it is the third-straight race in which he has set the pace for the Purple Aces.
The men’s scoring pack consisted of seniors Max Cordier (58th, 27:04.70) and Kevin Todd (83rd, 27:38.70), freshman Andrew Barrett (86th, 27:41.60) and sophomores Samuel Mires (92nd, 27:48.10), Cody Stein (114th, 28:34.20) and Brady Hall (122nd, 28:45.50).
Indiana’s Ben Hubers (24:33.7) and Chelsea Blanchard (17:37.20) won the men’s and women’s individual titles. Indiana took home both the men’s and women’s team titles.
Evansville will return to the course next Saturday at 10:00 a.m. when UE travels to Carbondale, Illinois to take part in the Saluki Invitational.
