Cross Country Teams Head To Oxford, Ohio

9/9/2010 10:35:27 AM

The University of Evansville cross country teams travel Saturday to Oxford, Ohio to compete in the Miami (OH) Invitational. The women’s 5K race begins at 10:00 am eastern time, with the men’s 8K race to follow. The meet will take place at Miami’s Western Campus Course.

The men will face top competition for the second straight week, running against the regionally ranked Miami University Redhawks. Senior Ryan Witters led the Evansville men with his fifth place finish last week at the Mid-America Opener, hosted by UE. The scoring pack that included senior Max Cordier, sophomores Cody Stein and Samuel Mires, and freshman Andrew Barrett all joined Witters in the top 20 at last week’s opener.

After a season opening second place finish last week, the women’s cross country team will also face a regionally ranked opponent in Miami, which has won two straight Mid-American Conference championships.

“I’m excited for this weekend,” said UE head coach Don Walters. “We did well last week in the shorter 4K and 6K races, so I am excited to see how we run this week in the longer 6K and 8K races. Now that we are at the right distances, we can go out and see where we stand. Both teams face regionally ranked Miami and it will be a good test early in the season.”
