Through their achievements in the classroom, more than 120 UE athletes have earned a place on the 2009-10 MVC Honor Roll.

MVC Honors Academic Achievements

7/8/2010 1:33:50 PM

Five University of Evansville athletes have earned the Missouri Valley Conference Presidents’ Council Academic Excellence Award, the highest academic honor presented by the MVC. Cross country runners Brian Joyce and Steven Matthews, baseball player Matt Netherton, soccer player Trish Tolen and swimmer Ady Sekely earned the distinction for achieving a minimum 3.8 grade point average and being within 18 credit hours of graduation.

Thirty-three UE athletes earned the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award, requiring a minimum GPA of 3.5 for the previous two semesters and a cumulative GPA of 3.2. A total of 124 from UE earned a place on the 2009-10 MVC Honor Roll, which requires a 3.2 grade point average. All 13 University of Evansville sports that compete in the Missouri Valley Conference were represented on the Honor Roll. Men’s swimming & diving, which competes in the Mid-American Conference, is the only UE sport that does not compete for an MVC championship.

“Strong academic results are a cornerstone of our mission in Athletics,” said UE Director of Athletics John Stanley. “This recognition of Aces’ student-athletes for outstanding academic achievements is very rewarding to our faculty, staff and administration. They work very hard to provide our student-athletes with great educational opportunities.”

Overall, the Missouri Valley Conference cited more than 1,500 student-athletes from the league's 10 schools for a place on the MVC Honor Roll, 440 for the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and 52 for the Presidents' Council Academic Excellence Award.
