The University of Evansville cross country program will once again host a pair of meets during the 2010 cross country season, as the Purple Aces will host the annual Mid-America Opener and UE Invitational on Saturday, September 4 and Saturday, October 16 at the UE Cross Country Course located at 20404 Barton Road in Evansville.
The Mid-America Opener will kick off the 2010 season for the Purple Aces, while the UE Invitational will conclude the regular-season for the ninth consecutive year for UE. The Mid-America Opener will take place on Saturday, September 4 at 10:00 a.m. central time and will feature a women’s 4-K event and a men’s 6-K race. It will also serve as UE’s alumni meet, as former Purple Aces are encouraged to sign up and take part in the day’s activities as well. The 2010 season will mark the seventh-straight year in which UE will open the season at home with the Mid-America Opener.
The UE Invitational will take place on Saturday, October 16 at 11:00 a.m. central time and will feature a women’s 5-K race followed shortly thereafter by a men’s 8-K event. The meet will serve as UE’s final tune-up for the 2010 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championships, and has served as a top conference championship tune-up for teams throughout the country over the last eight years. Awards will be presented to the first place team at the UE Invitational, as well as the top 20 individual finishers. There will also be a team cook-out following the UE Invitational on October 16.
The entry fee for both meets is $70 per team, and each team may enter an unlimited number of runners. Entries are due on the Monday prior to each race. Anyone with questions should contact UE cross country coach Don Walters via email at CoachDW2000@aol.com.
