Five University of Evansville athletic teams–-women's basketball, men's cross country, women's cross country, women's golf and volleyball--have been singled out by the NCAA for ranking among the top 10 percent nationally in their sport's latest Academic Progress Rate (APR). Among the 10 Missouri Valley Conference schools, Evansville was second only to Bradley University, which had six teams cited for being among the top 10 percent. The MVC average was 2.3 teams per school.
"The University of Evansville is highly focused on the academic success of our student-athletes," said Director of Athletics John Stanley. "To have such a broad base of academic success from a variety of our teams, and to be recognized nationally for our performance in APR, is highly gratifying to the student-athletes, our athletic administration, and the entire University community. It is an outstanding achievement."
Each year the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear APR. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
