Former USI runner finishes 27th at Boston Marathon

BOSTON, Mass.—Former University of Southern Indiana All-American Jesse Davis finished 27th out of some 25,000 competitors at the 114th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday.

Davis, 28, completed the 26.2 mile race in 2 hours, 22 minutes, 59.00 seconds, just 17 minutes off the winning pace set by Kenya's Robert Cherulyot. His five-minute, 27-second mile pace helped propel him to a 12th-place finish among U.S. citizens.

In 2006, Davis became the eighth Screaming Eagle to earn All-America honors on the track as he finished fifth in the 800 meters at the NCAA II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Davis has been running competitively since he graduated in 2006 with a degree in social sciences. The Bloomington, Indiana, native was just three minutes, 59.00 seconds away from qualifying for the U.S. Olympic Trials.

An 11-time All-GLVC performer for the Eagles, Davis is the second USI graduate to post a strong finish at the Boston Marathon. USI and GLVC Hall of Famer Elly Rono finished ninth at the 2003 Boston Marathon and was fourth at the 2003 New York City Marathon.
