ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—University of Southern Indiana senior All-American Mary Ballinger added an eighth All-America award to her mantle Saturday as she finished eighth in the mile at the NCAA II Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Ballinger ran the race in five minutes, 00.30 seconds, less than 14 seconds off the winning pace set by Seattle Pacific University's Jessica Pixler, who captured her NCAA Division II record fourth straight title in the event.

The award marks the third straight season that Ballinger has garnered All-America honors in indoor track. She was second in the 5,000 meters as a sophomore in 2008 and third in the 5,000 meters as a junior a year ago. She also helped USI's distance medley relay team to a fifth-place showing at the national meet last season.

Ballinger, the national champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last May, also finished 14th in the 5,000 meters Saturday evening. Ballinger completed the race in 17 minutes, 53.83 seconds.

The Screaming Eagles open the outdoor season April 2-3 at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri.
