GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Members of the IUPUI women's cross country team got back to work on Saturday when they took part in the 5,000 meter run at the 2010 DePauw Indoor Invitational at the James A. Hollensteiner Track facility. DePauw senior Ellen Mail won the event in a time of 18:20.90, but was followed up by a strong cast of Jaguars. 

Sophomore Ana Paez finished second of 16 runners in a time of 18:35.31 and rookie Rachel Zajac was third at 18:37.48. Junior Brittney McDuffee was next in line, crossing the finish line in a time of 18:38.52.

"We had a great day - it was a great start to the track season," IUPUI Head Coach Joni Sanders said. "Those three breaking 19 is really showing how far we've come in a short time. I was very pleased with them."

IUPUI's depth was evident throughout the lineup though as senior Jennie Jamicich took sixth in a time of 19:21.32 and sophomore Leann Fruits finished seventh at 19:24.37. Freshman Rebecca Downs placed ninth at 19:32.62 and sophomore Allie McGraw was 11th at 19:51.69. Junior Michelle Williams, who will complete her degree this spring, rounded out the Jags' entries at 20:10.41, finishing 11th.

"We had a really solid performance from the rest of the team as well. To have seven ladies under 20 minutes in our first indoor meet of the season; I feel really good about," Sanders added. "We've only done three track workouts, so this is mostly on strength and the hard work they did over the holidays and through all this snow."

IUPUI will continue its indoor slate next Friday when it takes part in the EIU Friday Night Special in Charleston, Ill.. That meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m..
