Mathison to Compete at U20 Championships

Kole Mathison's cross country season is not quite done yet. The Carmel High School senior and recently crowned Champs Sports National Champion will head to Richmond, Virginia this week to compete at the USATF Cross Country National Championships.

The competition at Saturday's Cross Country Championship could be fierce but Mathison is excited for the great level of competition.

"I'm super pumped to be competing against more high level competition. There's even gonna be some younger collegiate guys. I'm itching to compete again and no better way to get back into the swing of things by racing against the best in the country!"

Mathison has had a historic cross country season winning his first cross country State Championship in October, then qualifying for two national meets, and ultimately winning his first national championship in San Diego at Champs Sports Nationals.

Mathison is really looking forward to the new race distance and how it feels in regards to his training.

"I'm most looking forward to bumping up from 5k to 8k. I feel like my training gears really well towards longer races. I'm feeling prepared and ready to roll!"

The meet will take place on Saturday, January 21st at Pole Green Park in Virginia. The top 6 finishers in the U20 race will earn a spot to compete at the U20 World Championships in Australia in February.
