CEDAR CITY, Utah - For the first time in school history, the IUPUI women's cross country team had two runners earn All-League awards as sophomore Ana Paez and junior Brittney McDuffee highlighted the Jaguars' day at The Summit League Championship Meet at Cedar Ridge Golf Course on Saturday afternoon. Paez finished seventh of 70 runners to earn First Team honors and McDuffee placed eighth to notch her second straight Second Team award.

"Going in, we had hoped that both Ana and Brittney could finish in the top seven," Head Coach Joni Sanders said. "Both of them ran phenomenal races. It was really the first time all season that they both ran a great race on the same day. We told them to come out conservatively, because of the altitude. Ana's an aggressive racer, but Brittney stayed right there with her the whole way today."

Paez finished the 6K race in a time of 22:46.70 while McDuffee crossed at 22:51.30. Paez became IUPUI's first First Team All-League performer since Lyndsey Emerson earned the honor in 2003 while McDuffee became the first IUPUI runner to earn two straight all-league awards since Lyndsy Walsh did it in 2004 and 2005.

Three freshman filled the final three spots among IUPUI's scoring five, paced by Rachel Zajac who placed 30th. The Lake Central-product finished at 24:21.10 in just her second collegiate 6K.

Behind her, Rebecca Downs came in at 25:17.00 and Kaci Verkamp closed at 25:20.40.

"It was awesome to look at the standings and know that our whole top five returns next year. The freshmen ran great," Sanders said. "For it being their first big conference meet and running at altitude thousands of miles away from home, they all stepped up big."

Senior Jennie Jamicich came in at 25:58.70 and junior Michelle Williams posted a 26:13.20.

As a team, IUPUI finished sixth among the 10 teams competing while Southern Utah cruised to the team title with a score of 32. North Dakota State was second at 96 while teams three through six were separated by just 10 points. Oral Roberts came in at 115, followed by Oakland (121), South Dakota State (124) and the Jaguars.

Individually, SUU's Sharla Manuele earned the Championship MVP award by taking the tape in a time of 21:50. Her teammate, Whitney Curtis finished 11th overall to earn the Newcomer of the Championship Award.

IUPUI will now take part in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet on Nov. 14 at the IU Varsity Course in Bloomington, Ind..
