BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The IUPUI men's cross country team concluded its 2009 fall slate with a 22nd place finish of 30 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Meet at the Indiana University Championship Course on Saturday afternoon. The Jaguars turned in a team score of 585, running against schools primarily from the Big Ten, Horizon League and Mid-American Conference.

Wisconsin turned in an impressive score of 62 to win the meet and Michigan State was second at 128.

Junior Joe Hoffman, who earned First Team All-Summit League honors two weeks prior, led the Jaguars to the finish line in a personal-best time of 33:10.39 at the 10K distance. He placed 88th of 206 runners while his time was the seventh-fastest 10K posting in the IUPUI program's history. Fellow junior Aaron Kremer finished 100th in a time of 33:36.25, missing a PR by less than 13 seconds under picturesque conditions. His time was the 13th fastest in IUPUI history.

Rookie #J.D. Smith# continued his strong season, finishing in a time of 34:08.17 to take 125th and senior Evan Fruits was 138th in a time of 34:24.99. Sophomore Ricky Warren rounded out the team scoring right behind Fruits, finishing at 34:26.18.

Ohio State's Jeff See won the race at 31:03.16 while Wisconsin's Landon Peacock and Mohammed Ahmed finished 2-3 just over five seconds later.

Fruits was first-year Head Coach Chuck Koeppen's lone senior in 2009 as the season saw a number of strong individual efforts. Purdue-transfer Chase Kaufman started the season hot before a midyear injury derailed his season. Hoffman blossomed under Koeppen's tutelage and Smith emerged among IUPUI's top performers by years end.
