Buckeyes Commit Sean Carney Talks ZCZ Classic, OSU Decision


Sean Carney had a big evening on Saturday at Lakota West.

First, he downshifted from a lengthy cross country season to test himself against a collection of the southern region's top distance specialists in 3,200m track competition. Afterwards he shared with MileSplit Ohio's guest contributor, Cole Cronk, where he'll continue to pursue his studies and athletics in the college ranks. 

In his first race on the oval in quite some time, Carney dropped a 9:12.90 mark for second place overall, narrowly behind Oak Hills senior and Lipscomb University commit, James Schmidt who clocked 9:11.97.

As for the commitment news, the veteran from Hilliard Darby confirmed that he'll be staying close to home next year by joining the Ohio State Buckeyes roster. 

Carney, the 2020 Division 1 3,200 meter indoor state champion, elaborated on his performance at the ZCZ Firebird Classic above and he shared with us some additional context regarding his commitment below.
