Izaiah Steury Performs Well at Illinois Meet Of Champs

With a majority of track meets cancelled, the chance to compete was limited. As the summer months went on, more and more "pop-up" meets were announced. One athlete in particular who is making the most of their season is rising distance talent from Angola, Izaiah Steury

Steury has raced at 8 meets combined between the indoor and outdoor season. His most notable performances during the indoor season were 2:00.69 (800M) at the Future Stars Holiday Classic, 4:16.99 (1600M) at the Trine Thunder Open and 9:11.88 (3200M) at the GVSU Big Meet. The times Steury produced through the indoor season were very impressive and gave us a sneak peak of what we could see from him throughout the outdoor season. As we all know, the outdoor season was officially "canceled". As the summer went on, meets were put together to give athletes a chance to compete! Steury's first outdoor meet came at the Midsummer Night Distance Open where he ran 9:15.76 over 3200  meters and edged out Carmel's Kole Mathison for the win. The next meet on Steury's calendar would be the Illinois Meet of Champions which wrapped up yesterday. Steury competed in three events over a 6 day span. The 800, Mile, and 3200.

Steury's first race at ILMOC would be the 800, featuring some of the best 800 runners in the country! Steury ran to a PR of 1:56.28 finishing in fourth. Next up for Steury would be the 3200, where he had control throughout the race and crossed the line in 9:17.49 finishing in first.

Last but not least for Steury would be the mile where he ran a 4:14.72. That full mile time converts to 4:13.24 for 1600m which is a personal best for him. Running these three events in a stretch of just six days just shows how eager Steury was to get some competition in. These performances will be huge for Steury's recruitment process over the next two years and it's certain that he has put his name on some D1 programs watch-list. Steury will enter the XC season as a contender to win the state title and is someone to keep your eyes on not just at the Indiana level but also the national level!
