Reese Sanders Diversifying Her Resume

Rising junior, Reese Sanders of Indianapolis Cathedral is adding more events to her resume while most are looking to hone in on a specific event or two.

While most high school athletes begin to focus in on just one or two events as they get into their junior season, Reese Sanders is doing the exact opposite and is adding events to her list. As a freshman, Sanders took 7th in the 300m hurdles at the IHSAA State Finals, running to a PR time of 44.75. This past indoor, she ramped up to some of the sprint events, running the 400 and 200, in 60.35 and 27.49 respectively before the season got shutdown.

Now as we're about to enter the 2020-2021 school year, Sanders has entered the mid-distance realm of the sport, racing in her first ever 800m and winning the race. At the Summer Finale Distance Open, she ran to a time of 2:18.50 beating Ohio distance star, Faith Duncan in the process.

This fall, she plans to widen her resume once again by adding the 5K distance to her list by running cross country for the first time. This is a rare move for someone who's main event seems to be the hurdles. But this could prove to be a good one for her and the rest of the Lady Irish team. Continuing to run this fall will provide her a strong endurance base going into the track season next spring and allow her to focus more on technique and speed.

Sanders will be an athlete to keep an eye on as we go into this fall season. She's already proved that just because it's her first time doesn't mean she can't win.
