IDOE Releases Recommendations For Schools

On Friday (June 5th) the Indiana Department of Education released recommendations for schools for the 2020-2021 school year. The document is a staggering 38-pages long, and comes right as nearly every high school is holding virtual or drive-thru style graduations this week. Section C highlights suggestions for extracurricular activities, which would include high school athletics. The section features a three phased approach to the start up of athletics. All information presented in the document is fluid and can change at anytime.

All of the items listed are simply recommendations set forth, and each school district will have the ability to determine their own final decisions. It is clear by many of the items set forth, that the IHSAA had some form of involvement in creating the extracurricular section of the document, as they are referenced multiple times and many IHSAA By-Laws and practices can be found throughout.
