IATCCC Statement

(March 12th, 7:30am) The 2020 HSR Finals have officially been cancelled. Any questions at this time can be directed to Bob Potter. You can read the full email sent out this morning above.

"Sorry to inform you, the Hoosier State Relay Finals, scheduled for March 28th, at IU has been cancelled. For the safety of everyone concerned, this is best."

(March 12th, 1:00am)As of March 12th, the IATCCC has nowhere to host the Hoosier State Relay Finals. Indiana University has cancelled all outside events from taking place on campus due to the on going coronavirus situation, per an email to the HSR officials.

The spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has caused over 50 colleges across the United States to move classes online or to close, with six of those schools being in the state of Indiana. The host school for the Hoosier State Relays Finals, Indiana University, was one of the first to extend their spring break and move courses online until April 5th of this year. No known cases have been reported on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, but these measures have been taken as a preventative measure for the safety and health of all students and faculty.

The HSR Finals are not an IU Athletics event, but an outside event, this sends the word that the event is likely to be called off completely.

"IU Athletics is suspending all outside events taking place on campus due to the on going Coronavirus situation."

At this time, the meet directors have not called the meet off completely but have just stated the IU will not allow them to host. At this time, finding a venue that can host the size for the HSR Finals is unlikely due to many schools not having the capacity to host, not allowing large events like this to take place on their campus and also the short notice to be able to.

Many qualifying meets throughout the state have been cancelled due to the Coronavirus and a few schools have been told they can not go compete at events until further notice as well. Most notably in Central Indiana, Avon High School is unable to compete at any qualifiers at this time, but are still hosting a meet at UIndy on Friday March 13th. They will not compete at the meet, but will serve as the hosts. But this meet may also be cancelled due to the University of Indianapolis recently suspending in-person classes until further notice with large, non-essential events being cancelled through the end of May.
