Last year's boys shot put state champion Jason Swarens from Terre Haute South Vigo returns in 2020 for his senior campaign. Swarens' personal record throw of 64' is closing in on the state championship meet record of 66' 8.5" that has stood since 1996-97 school year. Though he will be the odds on favorite, he will see some stiff competition from Columbus North sophomore Tucker Smith who has been registering throws over 55' since middle school.

Smith turned heads last year as a freshman. Managing to make it all the way to the state finals before ultimately placing second. Smith's performance was so impressive that he was the only freshman to finish in the top 25. Only 3 athletes younger than juniors placed in the top 25 last year, but Smith is poised to be back at State again this year provided he can avoid the sophomore slump.

Other names to watch out for this season include the pair of Fisher's high school seniors Hayden Tobias, and Wyatt Puff who have both placed in the top 10 in the state. South Dearborn junior Nathan Pruitt looks to join the ranks of the state's elite throwers. After registering a PR of 52' 11.25". With a big jump, Pruitt could be a potential dark horse champion come May.
