Indiana Weekend Rewind

Annalyssa Crain had a good weekend at the Brown County Classic

Brown County Eagle Classic

This year's edition of the Brown County Eagle Classic looked to be one of the best ever. In the girls elite race a meet record fell. Annalyssa Crain, a junior at Edgewood High School, managed to takedown Carmel's Phoebe Bates meet record of 17:39 from 2017. Crain ran the best time of the weekend, with a 17:37.4 to win the girls elite race. Zoe Simmons of Brebeuf took 2nd in 17:56.6.

In the elite boys race, Alex Frey continued his streak of top finishes by winning by 6 seconds in 15:19.40, just 1 second off his PR which he set the week before at the Marion Invite. Jack Kovach of Brebeuf took 2nd in 15:25.8

IWU Wildcat Classic

In probably the closest finish we will see all season, Caleb Williams of WL Harrison won the boys red race in 15:38.3, with Nobleville's Travis Hickner taking 2nd in 15:38.7. Noblesville has a strong 1-2 punch with Hickner and Cole Kimmel (3rd) and grabbed a big team win with 54pts to WL Harrison's 93pts.

Halle Hill of HSE won the girls red race in 18:39.4, 12 seconds ahead of 2nd place, Sydney Lambert of Norwell. This is Hill's 2nd career win, and first that involved what could be considered major competition for the junior. Despite the individual win, the Royals took 2nd as a team scoring 65pts to West Lafayette's 56pts.

All-Catholic Championships

One of the smaller meets of the weekend, but still producing top notch performances. Nick Hruskoci dominated the boys race, winning in 15:28.2, leading the Cathedral Irish to a 2nd place finish with 66pts. FW Dwenger won with 60pts.

On the girls side, Erin Strzelecki continued her streak of sub-17:30's and wins with a 17:25.2. She won by nearly a minute to Mary Anna Wehrle. Despite Strzelecki's big win, FW Dwenger took 3rd as a team with 65pts. Cathedral won the meet with 53pts.

Ben Davis Invite

Newcomer to the high school scene, Sophia Kennedy earned her first career win with an 18:51.1. Kennedy is the daughter of all-time great American distance runner Bob Kennedy.

Bob Thomas Invite

Easily the best meet up in the Region this weekend saw some good action as well. Lucas Guerra managed to nab a win over Geno Christofanelli in 15:48.2. But Christofanelli's 2nd place helped lead Crown Point to a 1st place team win with 63pts.

Host team's Karina James has been on fire this fall, and continued that hot streak with a nice win over Bailey Ranta in 18:33.50. Ranta's 2nd place finish helped lead Chesterton to a team win with 76pts to Lake Central's 80pts.
