Conant Smith got out on the field early and never let up, as he took a resounding win in the championship race at Centerville's Saturday Night Lights.
Smith, who recently announced his verbal commitment to Arizona State University, recorded a time of 15:08.00 for his third victory in as many starts this season. His latest performance represents an Ohio No. 1 and a US No. 10.
The Middletown senior indicated afterward that his game plan was to open up a gap on his competition and see if he could take down the course record. He was successful on the former and just missed out on the latter; Arjun Jha's meet best time of 15:05.20 from 2016 survived, albeit barely. Smith's next contest will be September 29th on the ultra fast Midwest Meet of Champions course.
