Tyler Schwartz Uses Gatorade Grant To Donate Shoes To YMCA

Tyler Schwartz wanted to make one last gesture to the cross country community in Indiana before she began her collegiate career at Bradley University.

Over a year ago, the Dekalb High School graduate, who won Indiana's state cross country championship as a junior, received a $1,000 grant for being named Indiana's Gatorade State Cross Country Athlete of the Year in 2016-2017. She decided to use the money to donate to her local Dekalb YMCA.

On Monday, the boys and girls of the organization finally saw the difference, as members of the YMCA's running club who had been to every practice received new running shoes, according to KPC News

"It's very humbling, because sometimes you can't give back to the community," Schwartz told KPC. "This was my opportunity that I took and decided to give back to the running community.

Through community service to the Dekalb running community, Schwartz was able to award the monetary gift to 17 runners.
