Q&A with Oak Hill Senior Margo Hornocker

Margo Hornocker finished 11th at the State Cross Country Meet this past fall and finished 4th in the 1600 in track

Margo Hornocker seemed to have a breakout year in 2017, finishing 4th in the 1600 at the state track meet then following that up in the cross country season with her best finish yet in the state meet, 11th. She then represented Indiana in the Mid-East Champs in Ohio finishing 10th overall. She will be looking to finish out her senior year strong here in the next few months.

When did you start competing? Have you competed outside of school such as USATF or AAU?

I started running and competing in 6th grade, the first year we were allowed to run with the junior high team. No, I've never ran on a team outside of my school team

What does a typical training week look like for you?

My weeks usually look pretty similar with my long runs on a Sunday and then workouts on Tuesday/Thursday/sometimes Friday with distance runs or pre meet runs mixed in between.

How many events do you compete in? Do you have a favorite?

It depends on the meet, but I race anything from the 4x4 to 3200 and I usually end up running the the 4x8 and 1600 and then the 800 or 32 in a meet. My favorite event is definitely one hundred percent the mile :)

If you could compete in any other sport or event what would it be and why?

If I could do another sport I'd love to do something like rugby because it sounds fun. A track event I wanna try is 3000m steeplechase, because then I could get a good video of me falling hahaha

What is something that helps you mentally prepare before a meet?

I'm usually a totally different person before I race, when I get nervous I don't really feel like talking to many people but something that helps me is praying and honestly keeping to myself to give myself mental pep talks!!

What is your favorite track and field invite?

My favorite invite is the Flashes Showcase , I ran in it for the first time last year and it was super fun and fast:)

What are some goals you would like to accomplish this season?

This year I want to drop time in all of my events and improve on my place from last year at state.

Do you have any role models you look up to?

As a runner I look up to Karissa Schweizer a lot!!

Will you be competing at any national invitationals this season?

As of now I'm not planning on it

What is your favorite subject in school and what do plan on studying during college?

Definitely would have to say my favorite subject is study hall, I want to study psychology so hopefully study hall can help me with that!! Hahah

Outside of track is there any other hobbies or sports you participate in?

It sounds lame but outside of running I hang out with friends a lot

Hornocker will become a Bulldog this fall

If you've committed, why did you choose that school? Do you have any expectations for yourself once you get on campus?

I'll be running at Butler next year!! I chose butler because I could see myself living really well with the team and I loved all of the girls. I'm so super excited for next year because I've gotten along with the other incoming freshmen really well so far and it'll be a scary but exciting new step in my life !!
