Top 10 Boys To Watch This Cross Country Season In Indiana

Fendel looks to the clock as he crosses the line at the 2016 Shelbyville Semi-State meet.

#1 Gabe Fendel, Hamilton Southeastern, Senior

Gabe is the obvious one to keep an eye on has he goes into his final cross country season in the Royals uniform. Fendel had a star-studded Junior year. He had 5 first place finishes, came up 2nd at the Shelbyville Semi-State and the State meet just behind Curtis Eckstein. He competed at both Nike and Footlocker National Meets, placing 28th and 12th overall. In the spring, he took 10th at Arcadia in the 3200 in a loaded field that included Cooper Teare and Casey Clinger. This summer he raced at the Brooks PR Meet in the mile, finishing 7th in 4:07.46. This field included 3 guys that had run 4-flat on the mile already. He placed 1st in every 1600m race all the way to state, where he ran a season PR of 4:04.7. He currently holds a cross country PR of 14:47. Each season he has improved by almost 30 seconds. Could he potentially hit sub-14 this year?
