Getting to Know: Natalie Price

Natalie Price has some big goals relating to the 400m distance for the outdoor season.

Natalie Price of Granville High School competes in the sprint distances and she was the state champion in the 400m race at the D1 OATCCC Indoor State Championship last month in Akron. Price, who will compete for the Indiana Hoosiers next year, talked with MileSplit Ohio about her training, her recent accomplishments during the indoor season and what she's looking forward to accomplishing in the future with respect to her track and field career.

MileSplit Ohio: Describe your indoor season. Did your results live up to your expectations going in? What are you most proud of from what you accomplished and was there anything that you felt could have gone better?

Natalie: I am very happy with how my indoor season went!  My main goal going into the season was to run sub 55.00 and get the state record in the 400 meters.  I wanted to run sub 25.00 in the 200 meters and I wanted to run sub 7.60 in the 60 meter dash. The only goal where I fell short was I had hoped to be awarded All American status in the 400m. I placed 8th instead of in the top 6 at the New Balance Nationals Indoor.  I am disappointed that I didn't achieve that goal, but I will use that as motivation to push me throughout my outdoor season.

MileSplit Ohio: What events will you be focusing on during the outdoor season?  What goals do you hope to accomplish over the next few months?

Natalie: I am really excited for the outdoor season because I'm going to be mainly focusing on the 100m and the 400m races.  My goals for outdoor are to run 11.70 in the 100 meter dash, 23.60 in the 200 meter dash and sub 53.00 in the 400 meter dash.  My most important goal is to get on the podium (top 6) and be an All American in the 400m at nationals!

Natalie Price enjoys racing the 60m, 200m and 400m distances during indoor season.

MileSplit Ohio: Describe what your typical week of training resembles. Who are your key training partners and do you have a favorite workout that you rely on leading up to an important race?

Natalie: On Monday's, we usually focus on form and block starts, Tuesday's we typically work on short and fast drills, Wednesday's are the hard days where we do work-outs like repeat 300's or broken 400's, Thursday's are recovery days and Friday's can vary depending on if we have a meet on Saturday or not.  I love working out in the weight room and I focus on weight training several days a week.

MileSplit Ohio: Who has helped you to reach the level that you've attained to this point in your track and field career?

Natalie: My coaches!  They have done so much to help me improve as an athlete and as a person. After I fractured my ankle during my sophomore year, Coach Green met with me almost every day to help me with form, speed and to regain my confidence on the track. I am also very fortunate to have a great strength coach, Dustin Myers, who always pushes me to be at my best in the weight room. All of my coaches have been incredible in helping me to reach my goals and they always support me.

Natalie Price credits her coaches for helping her to achieve the success that she's enjoyed.

MileSplit Ohio: What are your long-term goals relating to track and field?

Natalie: The long-term goals that I have set for myself are to play an important role in helping Indiana University win a track and field conference championship.  I would like to eventually win an individual conference championship and I would also like to become a D1 All American.

Natalie Price will be representing the Indiana Hoosiers next year.

Natalie Price hopes to achieve All American status following the outdoor season.
