Tretez Wins Qualifying Heat at USATF Junior Outdoors, advances to Sunday's Final

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Tre’tez Kinnaird and Eric Claxton advanced in their respective events on day one of the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships Saturday at Hayward Field.

Kinnaird won his heat with the fastest qualifying time of the day for the 800m in 1:48.87. Kinnaird will run in the final of the 800m tomorrow at 7:45 p.m. ET.

Claxton ran the fifth fastest qualifying time in the 1500m run in 3:53.14 and will compete in the final of the event tomorrow at 8:20 p.m. ET.

Freshman Andrew Miller and Chanli Mundy will also compete tomorrow for the Hoosiers. Miller will compete in the hammer throw at 6:00 p.m. ET and Mundy will toe the line for the final of the 5,000m run at 9:20 p.m. ET.

The top two athletes in each event, given they have met the qualifying standard, qualify for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships, which will also be contested in Eugene, July 22-27.
