Kokomo Lady Kats Finish Mid-Pack at Marion Relays

The Kokomo High School girls track-and-field team finished 4th of 8 teams at the 63rd Annual Marion Relays held at Indiana Wesleyan University Saturday.

The Lady Kats scored 71 points and besides the 100 hurdles, they placed in every event. South Bend Adams won the meet with 105.5 points.

Leading the way was senior Summer Blackamore who won the shot out, 41'3 34", and won the discus by establishing a new meet record, 127'6",

In addition to her Saturday performances, Friday night the Indiana State University signee participated in the prestigious Throwers Showcase at Warren Central High School. At that meet, representing the state's 12 best throwers, Blackamore placed 4th in the shot, 40'11", and 5th in the discus, 126'8".

At Marion, the Lady Kats swept the high jump with sophomore Deju Miller winning with a 5'0" effort and freshman Lana Pham finishing 2nd at the same height.

In the other individual events, the Lady Kats placed 6th and 7th in the 100-meter dash with junior Jania Eddington, 13.72, and senior Brianna Lancaster, 13.74. Freshman Cinnamon Andrews was a double placer in the distance events. She placed 8th in the 3200-meter run, 14.29, and 8th in the 1600-meter run, 6:03.4.

Senior Haleigh Parrish finished 4th in the pole vault, 7'0" and sophomore Taylor Coram placed 5th in the long jump, 14'10 1/4".

"We were projected to score between 75-85 points and we were really close to that goal," said Lady Kats Coach K.O. Jackson. "Not placing in the hurdles really hurt, but we had some ladies who stepped up emptied their tanks and put some food on the table for us. It's been awhile since we've had a distance runner place so we are all pleased with Cin's (Andrews) effort. She put in 4 miles of racing"

In the relays, the Lady Kats placed 5th in the 400-meter relay, 53.64; 7th in the distance medley, 16:57.5; 3rd in the sprint medley, 1:59.73; 7th in the 3200-relay, 12:16, and 6th in the 1600 relay 5:09.12.
