Athlete Spotlight: Clayton Bowie (Southport)

Southport's Clayton Bowie recently commited to run at The Ohio State University.  MileSplit caught up with Clayton and asked him a few questions about his high school career, his goals for the season, and why he chose OSU.

MS:  How did you get started running track and field and cross country?

CB:  I got started running track in middle school when I also played soccer but I did not take it seriously until my sophmore year when I started doing track and cross country.

MS:  Of all your races this year so far, are there any that stick out the most?

CB:  It has to be during track season when I was able to pull of the 3200 victory at state.

MS:  What was your favorite moment of your high school career so far?

CB:  My favorite moment of my high school career is when I won track 3200 state just this past season.

MS:  Which cross-country course do you like the best?

CB:  I like the Ben Davis course the best because it's a smooth course and it's just fun to run on.

MS:  Do you have any favorite workouts?

CB:  My favorite workouts are probably interval workouts on the track.

MS:  Is there any advice or words of wisdom you have gotten that have helped you in your running career?

CB:  There probably were some but I don't remember but I think my coach helped me a lot with confidence when I was sick my sophmore year.

MS:  What are your goals for this year?

CB:  My goal for this year is to make it to state and go for the win.

MS:  Why did you choose The Ohio State University?

CB:  I chose Ohio State because the atmosphere of being around the team and coach is great. They're all extremely hard working and can potentially be a top ranked team soon in the future.

MS: What do you look forward to the most as you think about your collegiate running career?

CB:  I look forward to being around guys that are just as serious about running as I am. Also I look forward to running against competition that is very strong.

MS: What are your goals for your running career at OSU and beyond?

CB:  My goals for running at OSU is to go out and try to be one of the top runners on (the) team and possibly the nation. But I'm not sure what the future will hold for me.
