MUNCIE, Ind. - - In its final tune-up before the 2013 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships, the Ball State track & field team will head to Bloomington for the 35th annual Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana.
The meet begins at 2 p.m. Friday, with the women's hammer throw at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex.
So far, two Cardinals have posted automatic qualifying marks into the MAC Outdoor Championships. Senior distance runner MaryKate Mellen has qualified in both the 800m run with a time of 2:12.05 at last weekend's Gina Relays (April 27) and in the 1500m run with a time of 4:28.71 at the Polytan Invitational (April 20).
At the Cardinal Invitational (April 12), sophomore high jumper Haley Austin became the first Ball State student-athlete to officially qualify for the league's championship meet by successfully clearing 5-6/1.68m in the high jump. Austin's effort currently ranks her sixth in the league.
The 2013 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 9-11 at Akron's Lee R. Jackson Track & Field Complex.
