MCDUFFEE, MCGRAW TO SERVE AS TEAM CAPTAINS IN 2010

Women's cross country season to begin on Sept. 4 at Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge

8/2/2010 2:38:01 PM

INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Brittney McDuffee and junior Allie McGraw have been named the women's cross country team's captains heading into the 2010 season. The duo was chosen in a vote by their teammates and ultimately approved by the coaching staff.

McDuffee is a two-time Second Team All-Summit League performer and was named the team's Co-MVP last season. As a sophomore, she was chosen as IUPUI's Most Valuable Runner and she owns the program's record in the 6K at 21:59.2. In addition, she holds two of the top six 5K times in school history, including a personal best 18:16 at the Notre Dame Invitational in 2008.

The senior Spanish Education major holds a 3.65 GPA and was a finalist for the IUPUI Michael A. Carroll Scholarship last spring. In addition, she's a three-time Academic All-League pick.

McGraw has been slowed by injuries throughout her first two seasons, but has still appeared in 11 of the team's 14 meets entering her junior campaign. She emerged as the team's No. 4 runner her freshman year and opened the 2009 season among the squad's top five before being bitten by the injury bug.

The junior accounting major is a two-time Academic All-Summit League selection.

Head Coach Joni Sanders' roster returns McDuffee and First Team All-Summit League performer Ana Paez and steady No. 3 runner Rachel Zajac. The recruiting class was headlined by Warren Central graduate Rebekah Jones. This year's seven meet slate is scheduled to begin with the 2010 Dayton Flyer 5K Challege on Sept. 4 in Kettering, Ohio.
