INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI Head Women’s Cross Country Coach Joni Sanders announced that Rebekah Jones (Cumberland, Ind./Warren Central) has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Jaguars, beginning this fall. The local prep becomes the first commitment for next year’s squad.

"I think that Rebekah is going to have an immediate impact on our program," Sanders said. "She had a very successful senior year at Warren Central and I look for her to contribute right away."

Jones was an All-Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) performer this past season, while also earning All-Sectional, All-Regional and All-Marion County honors. She posted a personal best time of 19:23 in the 5K at the Harrison Invitational and also received the Set-A-Good Example Award.

This spring on the indoor track, she qualified for the Hoosier State Relays in the 3,200m and 4x800 relay. In the 3,200 meter race, she notched a personal best time of 11:37, bettering her previous best by 10 seconds.

Outdoors, she’s earned All-Sectional, All-Regional and All-County honors, running mostly 1,600 and 3,200 meter races. Her personal best outdoor 3,200m is 11:44.

Academically, she intends on majoring in nursing.

Last season, the IUPUI women’s cross country team placed sixth in The Summit League and boasted two All-League performers. Sanders’ squad graduated two seniors, both of whom ran among the top seven at the league championships. The 2010 fall season is scheduled to begin on Sept. 4 at the Dayton Flyer 5K Challenge in Kettering, Ohio.
