Hamilton County Championships Preview

The 2017 Top Individual Girls
Girls Top 15 Returning Individuals
These predictions will take more into effort than just solely personal bests

1st - Phoebe Bates, Junior, Carmel, 17:39 PR
With a 5K PR of 17:39 Junior Phoebe Bates looks like she will have little competition. She is coming off of a runner-up performance from last year's state cross country meet and was able to win the state 1600m title running a this spring. At the North Central 4K Warm Up Phoebe destroyed the competition running over 90 seconds faster than the next competitor which was her own teammate. Watch for her to go out early and try to win the County Championship again this year as a solo effort.
2nd - Lulu Black, Senior, HSE, 17:56 PR
Lulu has had a very consistent high school runner career. She is the next best returner from last years meet as she finished in 3rd place. Black went on to finish with All State honors at the State Cross Country Meet where she placed 16th. In track Lulu ran a 10:47 at State and ensure another All State season finishing in 8th. So far this season she won the Pendleton Arabian Roundup all by her lonesome running 40 seconds ahead of her teammate that placed 2nd. Lulu might not have a great shot at winning, but if something goes wrong with Phoebe or if she doesn't run watch out for Black to take charge.
3rd - Lilly Cummins, Senior, HSE, 18:19 PR
Lily finished 11th at the County Meet last year and was All County. With Lulu Black as a training partner it is likely that she has improved since last year. Cummins had several great perfomances in cross country last year and helped her team get on the podium when she got 35th at the State Championships. In track Lily ran mostly the 3200 with a personal best time of 11:12. So far this year Lily has ran the Pendleton Arabian Roundup where she was second to Lulu. Lilly should be a huge impact on the success HSE has. 4th - Ellie Schroeder, Senior, Guerin Catholic, 18:45 PR
Ellie had a very good Junior Season which included a 9th place finish at County. Towards the end of the season she peaked at the right time nearly getting a PR at the semi-state. However, it was just short of being able to qualify for the state meet as she was the first indivual not to make state. In track she ran mostly the 400 and 800 but did not compete for the tournament series. So far this year she finished 3rd, right in the mix with Brebuef's elite squad, at her conference meet. She looks to be in very good shape heading into County.
5th - Maria Mitchell, Sophomore, Hamilton Heights, 18:40 PR Maria Mitchell is interesting coming from a school that is known for being less competitive. Mitchell was able to turn a few heads when she got 13th in the County in just her freshman year. In track she had a good campaign in the 1600 running a 5:11 in the Regional Meet that was almost good enough to make the state meet. At The Meister Family Memorial Run she decimated the competition, winning by almost a minute. Coming out of her freshman year she should be able to develop into a top tier runner and someone to look out for at County
6th - Lindsey Roper,  Senior, Carmel, 18:49 PR
Lindsey was a little off at County last year but was still able to get All County placement finishing 16th. Roper was able to drop her times in time for the tournament where she was able to get her personal best at the Regional Meet. She did not seem to compete much in track as she ran the 3200 at the outdoor conference meet in 11:39. So far this year she finished 2nd, only to stud Phoebe Bates, at the North Central Warm Up. Roper should have huge improvements this season as she looks to be one of Carmel's top scorers.
7th - Paige Schemske, Senior, Guerin Catholic, 18:36 PR
Paige finished 7th at the County Meet last year and was able to extend her cross country season to the Semi State last year. In track Schemske was able to qualify for the state meet in the 3200 after running a 11:06 in the Regional Meet. This year she finished 7th in her conference meet and was second on her team. With her success in the 3200 she should be able to have even more success this year on the grass than she did last year.
8th - Debbie Shera Senior, Fishers, 18:26 PR
Debbie got a 10th place finish at County last year. Later in the season she almost earned the title of All State when she finished 29th at the State Cross Country Championships. In track she was able to qualify for the Regional Meet for the 3200 where she ran a 11:26. At the Zionsville Invite Debbie was able to get a 10th place finish while being first for her own team. Shera will be striving for more success this season as she made huge strides last season.
9th - Lily Mcandrews, Junior, Carmel, 18:53 PR Lily was able finish 8th at County last year before eventually, later on in the season, helping her team podium at State. She did not have as great of a track season as she probably would have liked but was able to get a 15th place finish at indoor state for the 3200. Mcandrews was 3rd this year behind two of her own teammates at the North Central Warm Up. She should be in the top 5 again this year for Carmel and looks to improve upon her County performance from last year
10th - Tessa Kraft, Senior, Fishers, 18:33 PR
Tessa was 20th last year at County last year and was able to have breakout races for the Conference and Sectional meets where dramatically lowered her times. Kraft did not appear to compete in any large track meets this past season other than a 3200 at her indoor conference meet. This cross country season she came in only two places behind her teammate, Shera, at the Zionsville Invite. Tessa should be able improve her County ranking based on how much she improved at the end of cross country season last year.
11th - Sophie Reichard, Junior, Noblesville, 18:43 PR
Sophie was 15th at County last year and was able to become a reliable scorer throughout the season for the Noblesville team that made it to the Semi State. In track Reichard raced in the 3200 for Sectionals running a 11:45. So far this season she has raced in the Plainfield Hokum Karem and finished 4th at the Harrison 8-Way Meet. Sophie will have a tight pack to back her up this season and push her.
12th - Aubrie Deal, Senior, Noblesville, 19:02 PR
Aubrie was 12th last year at the County Meet last year and was able to piece together a successful tournament season with faster times. In track Deal showcased how much range she has as she was a part of the All State 4X800 squad from Noblesville. She has raced at the Plainfield Hokum Karem so far this year and County will be her first individual effort. Aubrie will have many teammates nearby during the race to help fight for a potential team championship.
13th - Sydney Haines, Junior, Carmel, 18:46 PR
Sydney snuck into the top 20 at County last year with an 18th place All County performance. She also ran for her state podium team as a pusher at the State Cross Country Meet. In track she was the Sectional Runner-Up in the 800 running a 2:18 and qualified for Regionals. This year Haines was able to get 4th at the North Central Warm Up with only teammates ahead of her. Sydney looks to play an important role in scoring for the greyhounds.
14th - Bella Sharples-Gordon,  Sophomore, Noblesville, 18:52 PR
Bella ran a pretty great cross country season for a freshman as she was able to break the 19 minute mark. In track she was able to show off some of her speed as she advanced to Regionals running a 2:20 in the 800. She did this while pulling double duty running the 4X800 as well that ended up getting 6th at the state meet. Bella should be able to improve drastically with a full year of high school running behind her.
15th - Halle Hill, Sophomore, HSE, 18:07 PR
Halle will probably be the name to look out for this meet. She tore her ACL during basketball season and was not able to compete this past track season as a result. Hill was 5th as a freshman at County last year and was also able to make All State finishing 23rd at the State Meet. In a Q&A with MileSplit she expressed how her goal was to make her team's top 12 by the end of the year. Last week at the Arabian Roundup she was able to win the JV race as was already 6th overall in times for her team. If her recovery goes better than expected she could have a solid County race despite the crucial injury last winter.
