Indiana has had oddly cool weather for the month of August but on Tuesday night that changed. At the start of the boys' varsity race at 5:30pm it was almost 80 degrees out. That didn't stop the top athletes in Hamilton County from putting on a show though.

Gabe Fendel looked to have a little competition early on from Quinn Gallagher of Guerin Catholic. Gallagher was right on Fendel's heels at the mile mark. Coming out of the woods for the 1st loop, Fendel had lost Gallagher and began to run a solo race. Now in the 2nd place spot was Colin Murphy of Carmel.

In the final mile Gabe took over completely, leaving any chance of competition behind. He came across the line in a flat 15:15 to win the race. Colin Murphy came in 2nd in 15:31.

The Greyhounds came out with the win, scoring 28 points in an ever-tough county meet. Murphy(2), Miller(5), Myers(6), Gastineau(7), and Harris(8) were all the scorers for the Hounds.

Fishers took 3rd with 53 points, HSE 3rd, and Noblesville 4th .

Over in the girls' race, it truly looked like anyone could win it for the first half of the race. Phoebe Bates, Maddie Dalton and Abi Little were all three leading the race right next to each other, through just about a mile and a half. Coming out of the woods for the 2nd and final time, Bates had taken over. She now gapped Abi Little, who holds the course record, by a small margin.

Bates continued to push the distance between her and Little in the final K. Eventually finishing 6 seconds ahead in 18:26. Little crossed the line in 18:32. Lulu Black of Hamilton Southeastern took 3rd, Gabby Dilick of Westfield 4th and Halle Hill, a freshman from HSE, took 5th.

Carmel took home the win with 49 points, Bates(1), Dalton(6), McAndrews(8), Roper(16),Haines(18) rounded out the top 5 scorers for the Lady Hounds.

Noblesville 2nd (73pts), HSE 3rd (75pts) and Fishers 4th (89pts)
